Cerastium tomentosum - Snow in Summer

A low-growing, mat-forming perennial with silvery-grey, felted foliage and a profusion of star-shaped white flowers in late spring. Cerastium tomentosum is ideal for rock gardens, edging, and groundcover, providing early-season colour and attractive foliage all year round.

  • Exposure: Hardy and moderately wind-tolerant; coastal tolerant if soil is well-drained.
  • Size: Typically 10–15 cm (4–6 in) high and spreads 60–90 cm (24–36 in).
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy or gritty soil; tolerates poor soils but dislikes waterlogging.
  • Sun: Full sun for best flowering and compact growth.
  • Flowering Time: Late spring to early summer (May–June).
