Monarda fistula - Wild Bergamot

A hardy, aromatic perennial with whorls of tubular lavender to pink flowers atop square stems and aromatic, toothed leaves. Popular in naturalistic gardens and pollinator plantings, it adds colour, fragrance, and attracts beneficial insects.

• Exposure: Moderately wind-tolerant; not strongly coastal-tolerant, prefers sheltered or inland locations.
• Size: 60–120 cm tall; 45–60 cm wide.
• Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soils; tolerates loam, sandy, or slightly acidic conditions.
• Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
• Flowering Time: Summer (typically July–September).
• Uses: Culinary and medicinal; leaves and flowers used for teas and flavourings.
• Wildlife Benefits: Excellent nectar source for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds; provides shelter for beneficial insects.
