Saponaria ocemoides - Tumbling Ted

A low-growing, mat-forming perennial often used in rock gardens and walls. It produces masses of bright pink, starry flowers over neat, evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage, creating a vibrant carpet in late spring and early summer.

• Exposure: Moderately wind-tolerant; suitable for open sites but not strongly salt-tolerant, so only marginally suitable for mild coastal conditions.
• Size: 10–20 cm tall, spreading 30–60 cm.
• Soil: Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile to poor soils; tolerates rocky, sandy, or alkaline substrates.
• Sun: Full sun for best flowering; accepts very light shade.
• Flowering Time: Late spring to early summer (generally May–June).
• Wildlife Benefits: Flowers attract bees and other small pollinators.
