Ocimum basilicum - Outdoor Basil

An aromatic annual herb with bright green, glossy leaves and small purple to white flowers. This hardier variety of basil is suitable for growing outdoors, though will require a sunny, sheltered spot for best growth.


• Exposure: Low wind tolerance; not coastal-tolerant, prefers sheltered, inland sites.
• Size: 30–60 cm tall; 20–40 cm wide.
• Soil: Well-drained, fertile soils; prefers loamy or sandy conditions.
• Sun: Full sun essential for vigorous growth and flavourful leaves.
• Flowering Time: Summer (typically June–September); flowering may reduce leaf quality.
• Uses: Culinary; leaves used fresh or dried in salads, sauces, and cooking.
